In preparation for the first class of the new workshop series on storytelling I'd like to share an example of a segment that inspires, informs by telling a story, and illustrates a point with its medium. This is one of many audio slideshows in the series One In Eight Million by the New York Times. This series, ongoing for the past two years or so, features an individual at a time living and/or working in New York City. It includes a series of photographs paired with narrative from the subject.
This segment, in particular, has been inspirational to me and has somewhat informed my work since it was published approximately 2 years ago. The way One In Eight Million tells stories with images and narrative is moving. I aspire to do the same with both mediums. Also I aspire to do the same through the marriage of these mediums. This series is what I attribute my interest in video as a medium to.
